Punjabi folk art is the heritage of Punjab and should be acknowledged, celebrated and preserved by every Punjabi living in Punjab or outside Punjab. Our rich cultural heritage is being exhibited beautifully in many Punjabi period drama films, which are playing a great role in keeping the Punjab folk art alive amongst the Punjabi youth and small children.

One very talented UK based artist namely Harjit Kaur, is playing an important role in promoting Punjabi folk music and dance in the UK. She has been doing this great work from many years now and has become popular for her unique skills, her brilliant work and her gifted talent. She is known for her songs and videos performing dance, Gidha and Boliyan.

Gidha is a Punjabi traditional ladies dance and Boliyan is a traditional way of singing wherein short couplets are sung by women on which Gidha is performed. This art is popular till date and is practiced at the time of Punjabi weddings or any other happy occasions. Harjit Kaur, who is popular by the name of Meeto has been doing a splendid job by keeping folk art alive in the UK.

Harjeet Kaur belonged to Hoshiarpur in Punjab and had moved to the UK after getting married. Even as a kid and as a teenager, she was always super passionate about music, dance and the Punjabi folk singing and dancing. She actively participated in cultural activities in school despite of not being supported for the same by her parents. Looking at her dedication, her teachers supported her in polishing her talent and skills.

Throughout her teenage, Meeto participated in many cultural programmes, fests and competitions and won many prizes. She also visited Chandigarh for several competitions. After moving to Britain, she further nourished her art and her work started getting appreciated by the people around her. After much appreciation and motivation, Meeto started working on a professional level and started performing her art at weddings and functions.

When Harjit Kaur started posting on TikTok, her videos became viral and received a great response. She has gained immense popularity on TikTok and other social media platforms and is playing a pivotal role in promoting Punjabi folk art in Britain.

Later she met another talented and brilliant artist Harjinder Kaur also known as Preeto. Harjinder Kaur was also in a similar field and both the artists thoroughly enjoyed each other’s work and videos. Meeto and Preeto collaborated for work and the duo won many hearts and is popular as ‘Meeto and Preeto’.
