In a heartfelt revelation, noted Indian film director and screenwriter Amardeep Singh Gill has alleged that veteran Punjabi actress Bibi Jatinder Kaur was recently removed from a film project without any prior notice or intimation. Gill, expressing deep disappointment over the treatment of the senior actress, announced that he will now be including a special role for her in his upcoming period drama ‘Sarhad 1947’.
Taking to social media, Amardeep Singh Gill wrote an emotional tribute to the seasoned actress, reminiscing about watching her and late actor Sardar Harbhajan Singh Jabbal during his childhood on Doordarshan. “Most people used to consider them husband and wife,” he wrote. “Their fights and banter were so cute.”
‘Elders Deserve Respect, Not Rejection’
Gill revealed that he was informed about the incident by actor Rajveer Bawa, who told him that Bibi Jatinder Kaur was mistreated by some filmmakers and removed from a film without being informed. “I feel saddened. Our elders should be revered and respected. Old age is a time to serve them and seek their blessings,” he stated.
Although Gill admitted that he has never worked with Bibi Jatinder Kaur before, nor is he fully aware of the circumstances of her removal, he emphasized that the way artists of her stature are treated needs serious reflection.
New Role in Sarhad 1947
As a mark of respect, Gill shared that he has begun rewriting his upcoming film ‘Sarhad 1947’ to include a role specifically for Bibi Jatinder Kaur, in which she will play the grandmother of the film’s protagonist.
“There was no such character in the script earlier, but now there will be,” Gill confirmed. “This is the least I can do for an artist who has contributed so much to our industry.”
He also encouraged aspiring actors to reach out to him for roles, stating: “If you have talent, I will surely give you a role. Ask those who’ve worked with me before.”
