Filmmaker and composer Vishal Bhardwaj has publicly appealed to singer Arijit Singh to rethink his recent decision to step away from playback singing, describing the move as both “unfair” and “unacceptable” for the music and film industry.

Bhardwaj shared his thoughts through a social media post, expressing surprise and disappointment over Singh’s announcement. Alongside his message, the director uploaded a short video from a recent studio session featuring the two artistes working together on a new track for his upcoming film O’Romeo. The song, reportedly titled Ishq Ka Fever, captures Singh and Bhardwaj in a candid jamming moment, underscoring their long-standing creative collaboration.

In his note, Bhardwaj emphasised the singer’s unmatched contribution to contemporary Hindi cinema, suggesting that Singh’s voice has become inseparable from the emotional fabric of modern film music. He urged the singer to reconsider his decision, hinting that audiences and filmmakers alike would feel the loss deeply.

O’Romeo, which stars Shahid Kapoor in the lead, is scheduled for a theatrical release on February 13. The film marks yet another collaboration between Bhardwaj and Kapoor, a duo known for critically acclaimed projects.

Arijit Singh’s announcement about quitting playback singing has sparked widespread debate within the industry, with fans and fellow artistes reacting strongly on social media. While Singh has not yet responded to Bhardwaj’s appeal, the filmmaker’s message has added momentum to calls urging the singer to continue lending his voice to cinema.
