Wamiqa Gabbi Recalls Awkward First Encounter with Shah Rukh Khan on the Sets of Baby John

Actress Wamiqa Gabbi, who has steadily risen to prominence through her performances in Punjabi films and web series like Modern Love Mumbai, recently shared a memorable, and slightly awkward, moment from her first meeting with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

Gabbi, who is one of the leads in Baby John, a film presented by Jawan director Atlee and starring Varun Dhawan and Keerthy Suresh, recalled the incident during an interview with Mashable India. The occasion was the muhurat of the film, where Shah Rukh Khan made a brief appearance to support Atlee’s latest production.

Wamiqa described the atmosphere on set as electric when SRK arrived. “Everyone was mesmerised by him. My brother Hardik was with me, and we were standing towards the back, chatting and wondering what I might say to him if he came to speak with me,” she said.

In a light-hearted exchange with her brother, he jokingly suggested she say something outrageous like, “nas kaat de” (cut your vein), referring to the kind of exaggerated emotional expression sometimes seen in films. The joke, however, didn’t land as expected when Shah Rukh actually came over to bid her goodbye.

“As he said, ‘Okay, bye,’ I told him, ‘It was so nice meeting you, sir. My brother was suggesting I cut my wrist, obviously, I won’t do that.’ And suddenly, there was complete silence. He didn’t respond and simply left. A production person even rushed up to me asking, ‘Did you just say something about cutting your wrist?’” Wamiqa recounted, visibly embarrassed by the misunderstanding. “I genuinely thought he’d understand the humour, but I guess it didn’t come across that way.”

The incident, though uncomfortable, highlights the unpredictable nature of celebrity interactions, especially with someone as revered as Shah Rukh Khan.
