Why Jinde Meriye is already a milestone for Pankaj Batra

Jinde Meriye is already a milestone for Pankaj Batra: The renowned director’s upcoming Punjabi movie will place him in an elite category of directors.

There is no going into a safe house regarding the fact that upcoming Punjabi movie titled ‘Jinde Meriye’ is a potential name to become the first successful project of this year as far as the Punjabi film industry is concerned.

In what will be Sonam Bajwa and Parmish Verma’s second movie as a lead pair, their individual fan-following should be enough to provide Jinde Meriye with an affluent opening at the box-office. Coming on the back of a career-best 2019, any movie which Bajwa does this year will be keenly observed.

Apart from the lead pair, Jinde Meriye also stars Yuvraj Hans, Navneet Kaur Dhillon, Hobby Dhaliwal, Anita Devgan, Hardeep Gill, Malkeet Rauni and Ravinder Mand.

Why Jinde Meriye is already a milestone for Pankaj Batra

Written and directed by Pankaj Batra, Jinde Meriye is the first time when the renowned director has worked with both Bajwa and Verma.

It is worth mentioning that the movie will be Batra’s 11th Punjabi movie as a director and will place him in an elite list of directors who have crossed the 10-film mark in the Punjabi industry. Among the contemporary directors, only Smeep Kang (13) and Manmohan Singh (11) have directed more Punjabi movies than Batra.

Much like Batra, other illustrious Punjabi directors such as Navaniat Singh, Ksshitij Chaudhary and Simerjit Singh have all directed 10 Punjabi movies at the time of writing this article. However, Batra will surpass the aforementioned upon the release of Jinde Meriye on January 24.

In a comparatively younger industry where numerous directors are introduced each year, it is a significant milestone for a director to stay relevant for more than a decade.

Having made his directorial debut with ‘Reejhan’ (2005), Batra gained immense fame for directing movies such as ‘Naughty Jatts’ (2013) and Goreyan Nu Daffa Karo‘ (2014). However, Ammy Virk, Binnu Dhillon and Simi Chahal-starer Bambukat‘ (2016) remains his best work till date.

Having shown glimpses of a picturesque love story in the trailer, Batra would be hoping for Jinde Meriye to emulate the commercial and critical success similar to that of Bambukat.
