Film makers in the Punjabi industry are criticized off and on for making the same genre of movies on a consistent basis. The Punjabi audience often witnesses a spree of movies which in some way or the other revolve around the same category. Whether it is a co-incidence or a well-planned move, only the film makers can disclose.
Walking on the same path, three movies are all set to hit the big screen in the upcoming weeks. The genre, for one more time, remains the same, i.e., action. What appears to be a breath of refreshment for the audiences around the globe is that despite the same genre, all the three movies have a unique air of appearance.
The first movie to go under the hammer is Parmish Verma and Tannu Kaur Gill starrer ‘Rocky Mental’. The movie was originally scheduled to release in the first half of this year. However, Parmish Verma’s unfortunate accident (earlier this year) delayed its release date. It is the debut movie of both the lead actors. Parmish has already made a name for himself in the Punjabi industry. As far as directing and acting in music videos is concerned, he is a renowned face. His huge fan base would be eagerly waiting for this new innings.
The movie is a directorial debut for Vikram Thori and is produced by Vijay Saini and Usha Kapoor under the banner of Dhamrait Films. Vikram has also written the story of the movie along with Sanjay Saini. The USP of the film lies in the fact that it is, perhaps, the first boxing-based movie in the Punjabi industry. The trailer has revealed that the movie revolves around a boxer, Rocky (Parmish Verma), who willingly or unwillingly was involved in an incident, which re-positioned his fight from a boxing ring to a court.
The film is expected to receive tough fight from various Bollywood movies like the existing ones ‘Toilet-Ek Prem Katha’, and the yet to be released ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ and ‘Partition: 1947’. So, will Rocky will be able to prove his innocence? Will he be given another chance in the boxing ring? All such questions will only be answered on August 18.
The second movie is ‘Rupinder Gandhi 2: The Robinhood’, a sequel to 2015 blockbuster movie, ‘Rupinder Gandhi – The Gangster..?’. The cast of the movie remains the same, with Dev Kharoud once again being portrayed as Rupinder Gandhi. The 2015-movie depicted how a young man from village Rasoolra of Khanna in district Ludhiana emerges as a big name in student politics, but then, is involved in the some political wars. The reason behind Gandhi’s (Rupinder) popularity was that he went to any extent to help the poor and the needy people of his village.
The film is directed by Avtar Singh and is produced by Ravneet Chahal, Daljeet Singh Bola and Rajesh Kumar under the banner of Dreamreality Movies. Saanvi Dhiman, Jagjeet Sandhu, Kajal Behl and Lucky Dhaliwal are the other names who will share the screen space in the movie. The script is written by director Avtar Singh and Inderpal Singh. The songs of the movie have been penned down by one of the top lyricist of the industry, Veet Baljit.
Citing the success of ‘Rupinder Gandhi – The Gangster..?’, the movie is expected to do well, both critically and commercially. This Punjabi movie is releasing alongside with ‘A Gentleman: Sundar, Susheel, Risky’ and ‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz’.
‘Jora 10 Numbariya’ will release on the following week, i.e., September 1. It will receive stiff competition from Hindi movies like ‘Baadshaho’ and ‘Shubh Mangal Savdhan’. It will be Deep Sidhu’s second movie after ‘Ramta Jogi’ (2015). The movie also stars veteran Bollywood actor, Dharmendra who adds ample amount of star power in this star driven industry. Furthermore, it also has Sardar Sohi, Hobby Dhaliwal, Mukul Dev, Ashish Duggal, Yaad Grewal and Mukesh Tiwari in pivotal roles, all of which are proven actors.
The movie will showcase the inner political fights amongst the political parties, police and the underworld. Right from the teaser to the trailer, every part of the movie looks intense and enthralling. Been a popular face in the world of modeling, Deep Sidhu would be hoping of making a mark in the field of acting with this movie.
The movie is directed by Amardeep Singh Gill, who has earlier worked as a script writer in ‘Yoddha – The Warrior’ (2014) and ‘Yaariyan’ (2008). The movie will be released under the banner of Bathinde Wale Bai Films and is produced by Amandeep Singh Gill and Mandeep Singh Sidhu.
