Chandigarh: One of Punjabi entertainment’s most loved coming-of-age stories is making its way to the big screen. "Yaar Jigree Kasooti Degree", the hit web series created by filmmaker Rabby Tiwana, is set to return as a feature film, continuing the journey of its much-loved characters rather than retelling the original story.
Unlike a standalone adaptation, the upcoming movie is directly interconnected with the storyline of the original web series, allowing fans to revisit familiar characters as they navigate a new phase of life. The film picks up the narrative beyond the events of the series, making it a continuation for audiences who have followed the story from the beginning.
The original series emerged as one of the earliest Punjabi web shows to gain widespread popularity on YouTube. Its authentic depiction of college life, hostel experiences, friendships, relationships and personal struggles struck a chord with young viewers, helping it build a loyal fan base and attract millions of views.
A major reason behind the show's success was its realistic storytelling. Instead of relying on larger-than-life drama, the series focused on everyday experiences of students, making it relatable to audiences across Punjab and beyond.
