Instagram today launched the ‘Born on Instagram’ program in Punjab, to discover, showcase and grow the most creative content creators in the State. The program will give creators the knowledge to best leverage Instagram and hone their storytelling capabilities.
Instagram has over a billion people using it globally and its mission is to bring you closer to the people and things you love. In India too, it’s immensely popular for its vibrant community, cultural relevance and visual expression, and it boasts of users from Priyanka Chopra to Virat Kohli and Deepika Padukone to Diljit Dosanjh.
Creators have a huge role to play, as they epitomize the platform for their creativity in content and amazing social video moments. It is for this reason the app announced a ‘Born on Instagram’ program that rolls out as a series of 15 events, starting with Chandigarh, that will equip creators with best practices of the platform, video storytelling techniques and peer-to-peer collaboration opportunities; something we call #CreateTogether.
In the words of Manish Chopra, Head of Partnerships, Facebook India, “Born on Instagram’ is a program in recognition of the accelerated creativity in content witnessed all across India – big and small cities. While we build on our strength of visual storytelling and launch innovative features for enhancing safe self-expression, programs like these will help us further connect with the next big digital content creators of India.”
The highlights from the day-long event at Chandigarh included a mentorship session by a national creator, Harsh Beniwal (1.8million followers), who’s an actor and comedian, and most recently in the movie Student of the Year 2. The event also saw the presence of singer and actor Jassi Gill (6.2million followers), known for his hit songs Bapu Zimidar and Nakhre and his movies like Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi.
Jassi Gill spoke about his Instagram experience, saying, “I’m a singer, actor and performer, and Instagram is a platform where I can passionately express myself. There is a direct connect with my fans and space that allows me to follow people that inspire me.”
While Instagram rolls-out this program across cities, it also recently introduced a major expression tool to facilitate creative content creation – the Instagram music sticker. With this sticker, people across India can add the latest tracks such asBekhayali – Kabir Singh, Ve Maahi – Kesari, Dil Diyan Gallan from Tiger Zinda Hai, Lahore by Guru Randhawa, and many more, to their Instagram Stories.
