I advocate sensible cinema: Kuljinder Sidhu

He was the producer of Mini Punjab, and now he is debuting as an actor and writer in his upcoming movie Sadda Haq. We are talking about Kuljinder Sidhu. He recently spoke to Punjabi Mania.

Kuljinder, Is Sadda Haq your first movie or have you worked in Punjabi Movies before?

As an actor and a writer this is my first movie. But I have earlier produced Punjabi movie Mini Punjab, where Gurdas Maan was the lead.

What is the plot of Sadda Haq?

There are two plots of the movie. First is today’s modern generation and second is militancy period which Punjab saw. Both plots are interlinked to each other. In the movie you find a militant reciting his own story. What made him get into this path.

You made the moive which was based on a sensitive issue. Was the ride smooth?

Definitely, it was tough to make Sadda Haq. It is based on a realistic subject. A subject about which, everyone has a different point of view. People site one or the other thing responsible. There is no unitary opinion. It is a controversial subject. No one stood by us. I was working on it since Mini Punjab. But no one stood by me. People came, thought it was sensitive and left. We saw different directors coming in and going out until we met Mandeep Banipal, who completed this movie.

What is the matter with Censor Board not giving you approval?

As I told the movie is based on a sensitive subject, so there are some concers of Censor Board regarding it. We are in talks with the Board and are trying our best to reach some consensus. We are even ready to cut some scenes from the movie.

What are your future projects?

I have heard 2-3 scripts as of now, but not finalised anything. Yes you will see me acting and producing movies in the near future.

Will you be taking up sensitive issues in your next projects?

Not sensitive issues but I advocate sensible cinema.I am a huge fan of Anurag Kashyap and Madhur Bhandarkar. I feel cinema is not only the medium of entertainment, but it should also carry a message. So I love sensible cinema.
