Popular Punjabi rapper and music producer Yo Yo Honey Singh has shared fresh details about the difficult years he spent battling bipolar disorder, anxiety and substance abuse, revealing how the illness forced him into isolation at the peak of his fame.

Speaking during a recent podcast interaction, the singer described how his mental health began deteriorating while he was handling a packed professional schedule, including international performances and television appearances. According to Honey Singh, he suddenly started experiencing intense fear, panic and disturbing thoughts that made even stepping onto a stage feel impossible.

Recalling the early phase of his breakdown, the singer said he became convinced something terrible would happen to him during live performances. He admitted that he desperately searched for excuses to avoid going on stage and even shaved part of his head in an attempt to skip a concert.

Honey Singh revealed that after leaving one of his performances midway, he withdrew completely from public life and spent several years confined inside his home. During that period, he avoided social interaction, disconnected from friends and stopped using television, phones and the internet.

The singer said his condition worsened to the point where he believed he was trapped between life and death. He explained that the fear became so severe that he could not remain alone, even while taking a shower, because he constantly feared dying unexpectedly.

He also spoke about the physical toll caused by years of psychiatric medication, saying the treatment led to major weight gain and complete hair loss. During the conversation, Honey Singh disclosed that he now wears a wig after losing all his natural hair during the recovery process.

According to the singer, improvement finally began after he changed doctors and underwent modifications in his treatment and medication. He said he started recovering gradually within a few weeks and slowly rebuilt confidence to face people and resume work.

Honey Singh further admitted that despite quitting drugs years ago, the emotional and psychological recovery took much longer than expected. He compared the experience to surviving a long and exhausting ordeal that left him mentally drained.

Mental health experts say conditions such as bipolar disorder can severely affect behaviour, emotional stability and perception if not treated properly. Specialists also stress the importance of early diagnosis and medical support, particularly when symptoms such as insomnia, paranoia, depression or personality changes persist for extended periods.
