She wanted to be a Pilot, had it not been her friend compelling her to shoot for an American Channel’s ad, we would have never known her the way we know her today. We are talking about Jonita Doda. Belonging to Chandigarh she had worked in Kannad, Marathi and other language movies. In Punjabi Cinema she featured in Chakk Javana along with Gurdas Maan and Yaara O Dildara opposite Harbhajan Maan. And now she is back as the lead of Punjabi Movie, “Yamley Jatt Yamley.”

Jonita tell us something about your movie?

Yamley Jatt Yamley is made under the banner of Cinevally Productions. It’s a great movie, which not only entertains but also helps audience learn the hidden values of life. This is the first Punjabi Movie which is shot in Goa and where precise work is done on locations.

What’s the story, and what character you play in it?

The movie is based on youth. After completing their college they go to Goa for a vacation. There they meet some girls who hail from Punjab only. And this meeting further paves way for the story. The movie shows thinking of youngsters and also the problems faced by them.

I play the role of “Keerat,” an emotional girl who is brave as well. Unlike other girls she doesn’t hesitates to teach guys a lesson. The movie is a cutting remark on the thinking of today’s world about girls being inferior.

Who else is working with you in the movie?

Apart from me Savvy Dadwal, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Bharti Singh, Rana Ranbir, Shivendera Mahal, Gugu Gill, Harshdeep, Manreet Kaur, Rajpurohit and few new faces will be included in the team.

Jonita, the movie is packed with action and you have played such a character for the first time. Was it difficult?

Definitely, my character on screen is completely different from me in my real life. So I had to work hard. I have done para gliding and also drove water bike in the movie. In the fight scenes, I had problems in the beginning.

Jonita is there any incident in the film that you would never forget?

We were shooting on a beach in Goa when an accident occurred which frights me even today. Actually we were shooting on a big boat and suddenly it went upside down. We were near to the shore, fortunately no one got injured. And we had to stop the shoot for a day.

Any memorable moments in the movie?

Though for me full movie is memorable. But if I had to chose one then the day when we were shooting Boliyan for the movie. It was wedding atmosphere and the whole cast was present. We shot all night long and had lot of fun.

Jonita, which song is your pick from the movie?

Every song in the movie is for a different mood and I like all of them. But if i were to chose one, then it is Sukhwinder’s Jugni. When the audience will listen to it, they’ll surely love it. You can call it modern Jugni as well.

You have done movies in vernacular languages. Was language a barrier during the shoot of Yamley Jatt Yamley?

Yeah, I have done movies in Kannad and Telugu. The whole base of the movie lies in its language. So you find some difficulty in language, but that is in the initial stage only. Then you get the script and the director explains you the dialogue and you overcome this barrier.

What are your future projects?

I am in talks for a Punjabi Movie. Whereas will be shooting for two hindi movies shortly. Apart from it our home production, Cinevally Productions which is operated by my mother Mrs. Jaswinder Doda and brother Harshdeep Doda, will be coming up with two big Punjabi movies in the near future.
