Actor Katrina Kaif has spoken about the importance of protecting one’s self-worth from social media criticism, saying that constantly trying to meet public expectations can hold a person back from making independent choices. Her remarks come weeks after she faced body-shaming comments following a public appearance at a Ganpati celebration in Mumbai.

Speaking at an event in London, Katrina emphasised the need to stay authentic and not allow online opinions to dictate personal decisions. Although she did not directly address the recent trolling, her comments highlighted how criticism on social media can affect confidence if given too much importance.

Katrina Kaif on dealing with online criticism

Katrina attended an event on Thursday to mark the first anniversary of her cosmetics brand, Kay Beauty, in partnership with Space NK. During the interaction, she discussed self-acceptance and the pressure to conform to expectations created by social media.

“We really need to be careful in letting the narrative on social media affect our self-worth,” Katrina said, explaining that constantly attempting to please everyone can interfere with the ability to make decisions for oneself.

Reflecting on how she approaches criticism, the actor added that allowing every comment to influence her actions would have left her unable to move forward in life.

At another point during the event, Katrina shared a message about maintaining confidence during difficult periods, saying, “There are times when the world is going to celebrate you and other times when you have to be your own biggest cheerleader.”

‘It's kay to be you’: Katrina on self-acceptance

The actor also connected her thoughts on self-worth with the philosophy behind Kay Beauty's tagline, ‘It's kay to be you’.

According to Katrina, accepting oneself means being comfortable with who you are at a particular moment, while recognising that personal circumstances and feelings can change over time.

She explained that life comes with different phases. There may be times when everything seems to be going well, while at other moments, people may struggle to get things right or feel they are still working towards becoming their best selves.

Katrina suggested that people should learn to take these changing phases in their stride rather than being overly critical of themselves. Her message centred on embracing imperfections, allowing room for personal growth and not taking every setback too seriously.

Katrina faced body-shaming after Ganpati celebration

Katrina's remarks come after she was subjected to online trolling following her appearance at the Ganpati puja hosted at the Ambani residence last month. Several social media users made hurtful comments about her appearance and postpartum body, despite the actor having welcomed her son, Vihaan, in November 2025.

The criticism also prompted support for Katrina, with many social media users condemning the remarks and pointing out the insensitivity of targeting a woman over changes in her appearance after childbirth.

Several members of the film industry, including Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Sameera Reddy and Soundarya Rajinikanth, also came out in her support.

While Katrina did not explicitly link her London remarks to the recent incident, her emphasis on self-worth and resisting the pressure of online narratives comes at a time when the discussion around body-shaming and public scrutiny of celebrities has once again gained attention.

Through her comments, the actor underscored the importance of staying true to oneself, irrespective of whether public opinion is favourable or critical.
