Padma Shree Awardee & Punjab’s Writer Surjit Patar Dies At Age 79

Recently a piece of heart-wrenching news has been made to the news headlines. It has come to light that Surjit Patar, a 79-year-old poet, writer, and recipient of the Padma Shri, passed away this morning. 

When digging into the reason behind his death, then his family revealed, that Patar passed away while he was asleep at his home close to the Barewal Colony in Ludhiana. He was survived by his wife and two sons.

The people of Punjab showed their grief for this great personality. Speaking of Surjit Patar, in 2012 he received the Padma Shri in recognition of his contributions to education and literature. In addition to serving as president of the Punjabi Sahit Akademi, he was also head of the Punjab Arts Council. During his remarkable career, Patar was honoured with numerous accolades, including the Saraswati Samman, Panchnad Puruskar, Sahitya Akademi Award, and the Kusumagraj Literary Award. His poetic works include Hawa Vich Likhe Harf, Hanere Vich Sulagdi Varanmala, and many more.
