PM Modi Sees Immense Potential in ‘Concert Economy’ After Coldplay’s Successful Tour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted India's vast potential in the emerging "concert economy," citing Coldplay's recent successful tour as an example of how large-scale music events can boost tourism and job creation.

Speaking at the Utkarsh Odisha conclave, which aims to promote the Make in India initiative, Modi emphasized India's growing appeal as a global tourism and entertainment hub. He noted that beyond traditional tourism, India has lucrative opportunities in wedding tourism, wellness retreats, and large-scale entertainment events.

"India has immense potential, not just in traditional tourism sectors but also in emerging areas like wedding tourism, wellness, and the concert economy," the Prime Minister said.

Concerts as a Tourism Driver

Modi highlighted how concerts featuring global artists, such as Coldplay’s recent tour and collaborations between Indian and international musicians like Diljit Dosanjh and Ed Sheeran, can attract international visitors. He encouraged investment in event management, artist development, and security infrastructure to help India capitalize on its young and vibrant entertainment market.

"The success of Coldplay’s tour shows that India has a massive audience for concerts. With the right infrastructure and promotion, live events can become a major driver of tourism and employment," Modi stated.

Expanding India's Economic Horizons

Apart from entertainment, the Prime Minister outlined India’s growth in other industrial sectors, including artificial intelligence, IT, petrochemicals, mining, and green energy. He stressed that tourism, combined with India’s cultural and natural attractions, can play a pivotal role in economic growth.

Modi also pointed to India’s upcoming hosting of the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in February 2025, describing it as a significant step in establishing India as a global entertainment powerhouse.

As India continues to position itself as a major player in the global tourism and entertainment industries, Modi called on both public and private stakeholders to invest in infrastructure that will support the expansion of the concert economy and live entertainment sector.
