Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Touches Gurdas Maan’s Feet at Khedan Watan Punjab Dian Opening in Bathinda

BATHINDA: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann paid a gesture of respect to legendary Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan during the opening ceremony of the fourth edition of Khedan Watan Punjab Dian in Bathinda on September 5.

The moment took place on stage at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium, where Gurdas Maan was present for the inauguration ceremony and also performed for the gathering. Mann touched the veteran singer’s feet, drawing attention during the launch of Punjab’s flagship grassroots sporting event.

This year’s games are set to continue for 86 days, with organisers expecting participation from more than 10 lakh people. The competition has been designed to bring together participants ranging from 14-year-olds to those above 70, reflecting an effort to make sporting activities accessible across generations.

Athletes will compete across 38 sports, along with four para-sports, through competitions conducted at the block, district and state levels.

The state government has positioned the event as more than a sporting competition, with the initiative aimed at encouraging young people to take up sports, rebuilding Punjab’s sporting culture and providing an alternative to drug abuse.

The programme will also offer incentives to athletes who make their mark at the state level. Medal winners are set to receive cash rewards as well as job-quota certificates, providing additional encouragement for participants to pursue sporting excellence.

The fourth edition will travel through different stages of competition before concluding in Patiala on November 29.

With its focus on mass participation and sporting opportunities for people across age groups, the event is expected to remain a key part of Punjab’s efforts to promote grassroots sports and encourage greater youth participation in athletics and competitive games.
