Punjabi Cinema Day: Know About The First Ever Punjabi Movie ‘Ishq - E - Punjab’ Released On This Day

29th March - The cinema of Punjab had its beginning on this date in 1935. It has been considered as a remarkable day for Punjabi movie lovers as the first Punjabi movie ‘Ishq - E - Punjab’ aka Mirza Sahiban got released in cinemas and became the first ever Punjabi feature film to be released in theaters. 

It means, the Punjabi cinema began and is continuing winning hearts of the movie lovers till date. Isha - E - Punjab alias Mirza Sahiban released in the Niranjan Talkies of Lahore on 29th March 1935, that is before Independence. 

Actor Bhai Desa played the role of Mirza while actress Khursheed Bano played the character of Sahiba in the movie Ishq - E - Punjab, Directed by GR Sethi, this film was based on the life of Mirza and Sahiba. Bhai Desa who played the lead character belonged to Amritsar and was popularly known as Amritsar Wale during that time. 

 

The movie was released under Hindmata Cineton, Bombay and fell under Folk Story genre. It was produced by Boman Shroff & was written by Sahibzada Mumtaz. The other name of this movie is Mirza Sahiban. It was shot in Punjab with only Punjabi artists. 

 

It was on 29th March 2021 when the Punjabi Cinema Day was celebrated at first and it is the second year anniversary of it today. The Punjabi cinema is now known worldwide and winning hearts among the people with its movies and web series.
