Punjabis have a soft spot for comedy: Karamjit Anmol

Every passing day brings us a day closer to the release of Smeep Kang’s ‘Carry On Jatta 2’. The promotional events of the movie had started last week. The promotion is being carried out in an extensive manner. What must have been a relief for the makers of the movie is the exuberance with which the audiences are responding to these events.

In a movie like ‘Carry On Jatta 2’, what forms a strong suit of the movie is its star cast. A notion which is prevalent in not just the Punjabi film industry but in Bollywood as well is giving the rundown of comedians as comedians but not as lead actors. As debatable as it sounds, it will be unfair to not state the comedians of this movie as lead actors because it would be a daunting task to imagine this movie without their efforts.

In Jaswinder Bhalla, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Binnu Dhillon, Karamjit Anmol, B.N. Sharma and Upasana Singh, the movie comprises of names which can change the fortune of a movie on their own. Imagine the state of affairs of the movie when all of them will share the same space. Apart from the script and the dialogues, it is the presence of these superstars which makes the makers of the movie say that the movie will be a sure-shot laugh extravaganza.

During the recently-held press conference of the movie at Chandigarh, we interviewed Gurpreet Ghuggi, Binnu Dhillon and Karamjit Anmol. On being asked about the novelty factor in the movie, Binnu Dhillon said, “‘Carry On Jatta 2’ is in itself a new movie. It is a new subject, a new story. A few elements which the audiences liked from the first part have been kept, rest everything will appeal afresh to the audiences.”

Karamjit Anmol, who played a cameo-sort of a role in the first part and is playing a full-fledged role this round, was quoted, “I have a new character, which is completely different from the earlier character”. On the suspense regarding Anmol’s role in the movie, Binnu Dhillon said, “The biggest blast is not disclosed beforehand. It plays its role when the need arises. Similarly, you will get to know about his (Karamjit Anmol) role in the movie.”

On being asked about the obsession of Punjabi film makers around comedy, Karamjit Anmol said, “Punjabi people are fond of laughing. They have a soft spot for comedy. People spend money to watch movies, if they go back home with additional stress, it would be unfair. If we talk about the earlier movies, I used to watch them only because of Mehar Mittal sahab.”

The 14-minute interview comprised of several moments which will force you to burst out with laughter. If this trio can entertain us to this extent in such a short span of time, imagine what is in store for us on June 1 when the movie will hit the big screens. Watch the full interview:
