Soorjan Wale: The recently released single track sung by Amrinder Gill ends a nearly five-year long wait and aspires to bring hope for the farmers of Punjab.
"Oh jo chaddh gaya si, Mudh aaya... [The one who had left has come back]"
The aforementioned line isn't just the first line of prominent singer-turned-actor-turned-producer Amrinder Gill's last single track until today, it also fits perfectly for a singer who has released a single track after 1,742 days today.
Yes, you've read that right. 'Soorjan Wale', Gill's recently released song, is his first one in the last four years, nine months and six days. 'Supna', which was Gill's last single track, had released all the way back on December 24, 2015, before he himself became a supna [dream] for his fans.
To be fair on Gill, he has appeared in as many as nine films since December 2015 and each movie had at least one song sung by him. Having said that, single tracks or albums have their own charm especially for Punjabi singers and their fans.
In what should be a fun exercise, let us measure these 1,742 days with respect to some developments in the Punjabi entertainment industry. The last time Gill had released a single track:
- Ammy Virk and Sargun Mehta had worked in just one Punjabi movie - 'Angrej'.
- Sonam Bajwa had a couple of released movies under her belt - 'Best of Luck' and 'Punjab 1984'.
- Dev Kharoud had just announced himself on the back of 'Rupinder Gandhi - The Gangster..?'.
- Sidhu Moose Wala hadn't made his singing debut.
- Humble Motion Pictures was yet to release a movie.
- Tarsem Singh Jassar and Simi Chahal hadn't made their respective acting debuts.
- Jagdeep Sidhu had only one movie to his name as a script writer - 'Dildariyaan'.
- Talking about Amrinder Gill himself, 'Love Punjab' was yet to release.
Looks like a lot of time. No?
Soorjan Wale
It is a tad unfortunate that Gill's Soorjan Wale has released amidst the ongoing tense situation around the debatable Farm Ordinances in the country. Much like a line written by Bittu Cheema in the song, one hopes for better days to come in the near future.
"Kade soorjan wale vi din aaunge [Better days will come],
Tu aiwi Bittu Cheemeya na ro... [Don't you cry]"
While Gill himself hasn't featured in the video, the likes of Ammy Virk and Nimrat Khaira have done a recommendable job in giving the much-needed poignant feel to the song.
Stalinveer Singh, who has directed quite a lot of videos in the last month or so especially alongside veteran singer Harbhajan Mann, has directed the video of Soorjan Wale as well.
Gill, who had announced an untitled album in May, has his plethora of fans looking forward to the same. A significant and perhaps the only change they would be desperately hoping for is Gill to himself feature in the music videos this time round.
As far as the movies are concerned, Gill-starrer 'Chal Mera Putt 2' is expected to re-release in cinema halls whenever the they reopen in India. Apart from that, Gill was expected to play the lead role in an untitled film directed by Amberdeep Singh. Originally slated to release on July 31 this year, one awaits the status of that project.
