Tarsem Jassar and Nimrat Khaira - Infrequent emergence of a singing duo in 'Afsar'

Tarsem Jassar and Nimrat Khaira: In their upcoming movie 'Afsar', Tarsem Jassar and Nimrat Khaira will share screen space for the first time.

There is no hiding to the fact that the leading pair of debutant director Gulshan Singh's 'Afsar' has novelty written all over it. The novel factor in the movie is not just restricted to the certitude that Tarsem Jassar and Nimrat Khaira will be sharing screen for the first time. It goes a step above than what is visible on the screen.

In the Punjabi film industry, seldom do you see a leading pair comprising of singer-turned-actors. This might sound like an archetype Punjabi duet song but if Jassar is one of the leading male singers in the contemporary Punjabi music industry, Khaira is one of the leading female singers.

Their coming together for an acting stint in a movie unequivocally has indefinite prospects of it doing wonders at the box-office. As per the trend, if the male actor is a successful singer, he is an affirmative sign for the producers as far as the collection of the movie is concerned. Imagine the scenario when both the actor and the actress are noteworthy in their own respective category.

In the trailer and a couple of songs in which we've seen them together so far, Jassar and Khaira seem to share a winsome unadorned chemistry. The fact that all of this appears to be effortless on the screen speaks highly about their craft. Irrespective of how Afsar will perform at the box-office, don't be surprised if you see this duo being repeated on the big screen in the times to come.

It is within the bounds of possibility that this pair ends up paving a path for others to follow in terms of leading male and female singers coming together in movies. Some might argue that the same had happened earlier this year with Diljit Dosanjh and Sunanda Sharma in Pankaj Batra's 'Sajjan Singh Rangroot', but the length of Sharma's role in that movie doesn't really qualify for the role of a leading actress.

Without the exact clarity of Afsar's upcoming songs, writing this in the hope of watching Jassar and Khaira joining hands for a duet song in the movie. If that happens, it will most likely to be the icing on the cake, chiefly for the fans of these two established singers. And if that doesn't happen, it will surely go down as a missed opportunity on the part of the makers.
