In a compassionate gesture following the sudden passing of Punjabi singer Rajvir Jawanda, Member of Parliament Vikramjit Singh Sahni has announced plans to secure a government job for the late artist’s wife. The move comes amid an outpouring of grief from across Punjab and the Punjabi diaspora.
While attending Jawanda’s antim ardaas (last rites) in his native village Pona, Sahni stated, “I will be speaking with the Chief Minister today regarding a government position for Rajvir's wife. This is the least we can do to honour his legacy and support his family in this difficult time.”
The singer tragically passed away on October 8 after succumbing to injuries sustained in a road accident. He had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mohali, but could not be saved. His funeral, held today, drew massive crowds, with villagers, fans, political figures, and celebrities from the Punjabi entertainment world all present to pay their respects.
To accommodate the large number of mourners, extensive arrangements were made in and around Pona village, including the setting up of temporary tents and public seating. Emotional scenes unfolded as admirers from across the state gathered to remember the singer whose music deeply resonated with the youth and rural communities.
Jawanda, celebrated for his distinctive voice and powerful lyrics, had become a cultural icon in Punjab. His untimely death has left not only his family, but also the entire music community and fanbase in mourning.
