Sonam Bajwa Opens Up on Turning Down Bollywood Films Over On-Screen Kissing Scenes

Punjabi actress Sonam Bajwa has revealed that she once turned down multiple Bollywood offers because she was uncomfortable performing kissing scenes on screen. The actress, who has established herself as one of the leading stars in Punjabi cinema, said she feared how her family and fans back home would react if she took on such roles.

In a candid interview with Film Companion, Sonam admitted that her hesitation was rooted in cultural sensitivity and personal discomfort. “I said no to a couple of Bollywood projects because I kept thinking, ‘What will people in Punjab say? How will my family react?’ There’s always that thought that our families and communities watch our work,” she shared.

Sonam explained that she had internalized the fear of being judged by her audience for doing intimate scenes, saying she worried that her career in the Punjabi film industry might suffer. “I used to be very scared about kissing scenes. I wondered, ‘Will people understand that it’s just acting? Will my family see it the same way?’ Those questions really held me back,” she added.

However, the actress said her perception changed after a heart-to-heart conversation with her parents. To her surprise, they were completely supportive. “When I finally spoke to them, they said, ‘If it’s for a film, there’s no issue.’ I was shocked because I had built up all these assumptions in my head. I was too shy to even bring it up earlier,” Sonam recalled with a laugh.

Reflecting on those missed opportunities, she admitted that she now regrets saying no to certain roles that could have taken her Bollywood career in a different direction. “Looking back, I feel I could have approached it differently. But at that time, I wasn’t ready,” she said.

Upcoming Work

Sonam Bajwa is now gearing up for her next big release, ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’, opposite Harshvardhan Rane, which is slated to hit theatres on October 21, 2025. She was last seen in ‘Baaghi 4’, alongside Tiger Shroff, Sanjay Dutt, and Harnaaz Sandhu, directed by A. Harsha. The film, which released on September 5, 2025, received a lukewarm response at the box office.

Despite the setbacks, Sonam continues to be one of the most sought-after actresses in regional cinema. Known for her versatility and charm, she remains a fan favorite in both Punjabi and Hindi entertainment circles — and her recent openness about her choices has earned her renewed appreciation for balancing career ambitions with personal values.
