Actor Sonu Sood has voiced strong support for the Punjabi film industry, saying it is at a promising stage but requires stronger financial backing to reach its full creative potential.
Sood, who was recently in Patiala to inaugurate a new apparel outlet on Bhupindra Road, noted that Punjabi cinema has been drawing increasing numbers of viewers to theatres in recent years. He said the audience response reflects a growing appreciation for regional storytelling. “The turnout for Punjabi films has been very encouraging. People are stepping into cinemas in large numbers, and that itself shows how much the industry has grown,” he remarked.
While acknowledging this momentum, the actor stressed that higher investments are essential to elevate production values. According to him, additional funding would allow filmmakers to experiment more and enhance technical quality. Sood also expressed interest in backing a Punjabi project himself. “I would love to produce a film that matches the scale and standards of mainstream Hindi cinema,” he said.
Speaking about his bond with Patiala, Sood described the city as emotionally significant. He shared that he was born at Rajindra Hospital and has filmed several projects in and around the region. “Every time I come back, it feels like home. The city’s heritage, culture and people make it truly special for me,” he added.
The actor also touched upon his continued involvement in social initiatives, saying that contributing to society brings him a sense of purpose. Helping those in need, he said, remains a meaningful and integral part of his life beyond films.
