Veteran Hindi film actor Prem Chopra has been admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai after developing chest congestion and a mild infection. The 89-year-old actor, who has been under medical care since November 8, is reported to be in a stable condition and showing steady signs of recovery.
Sources close to the family confirmed that Chopra is responding well to treatment and may be discharged within the next few days. “He is doing fine and is under observation as a precaution. Doctors have advised rest before he returns home,” a family member said.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Jalil Parker of Lilavati Hospital shared an update on the actor’s health. “Prem Chopra ji was admitted under the supervision of his family cardiologist, Dr. Nitin Gokhale. He had a minor heart-related concern along with a viral and lung infection. He is not critical and is being treated in the general ward, not the ICU,” Dr. Parker clarified.
Known for his commanding screen presence and charismatic portrayals of villains, Prem Chopra remains one of Indian cinema’s most recognisable figures. He began his acting journey in Punjabi cinema with Chaudhary Karnail Singh (1960) before gaining attention in Hindi films, especially after Shaheed (1965).
Over the next three decades, Chopra appeared in numerous blockbusters such as Do Raaste (1969), Kati Patang (1970), Do Anjaane (1976), Dostana (1980), and Kranti (1981). His distinctive dialogue delivery and charm made him an unforgettable figure in Bollywood’s golden era.
Messages of concern and goodwill have poured in from fans and colleagues across the industry. The family has expressed gratitude for the support and requested privacy as the veteran continues his recovery under medical supervision.
