The year 2017 is in its twilight. It is that time of the year when people concoct plans regarding the New Year's eve. It is that time of the year when people build new resolutions. It is also that time of the year when all métiers are scrutinised.

We, at Punjabi Mania, have covered news vis-à-vis Punjabi movies for the whole of 2017. With just a handful of days remaining in the year, we believe that this is the best time to review the performances across various spheres of activity.

Let us pick up the threads of our segment with the 'Best Breakthrough Performances (Female)' of the year.

1. Rubina Bajwa (Sargi) - Having made her debut in and as 'Sargi', Rubina Bajwa announced herself in the Punjabi film industry. When you are the sibling of Neeru Bajwa, people are bound to expect more from you. Having said that, Rubina Bajwa stool tall on those expectations with her exceptionally good performance.

2. Prachi Tehlan (Arjan, Bailaras) - The journey from the netball court to the Punjabi industry has been a fruitful one for Prachi Tehlan. The fact that she has played lead roles in two movies in her first year itself is a testament of the same. Both her roles as Nimmi in 'Arjan' and Sonali in 'Bailaras' were commendable.

3. Nimrat Khaira (Lahoriye) - An acclaimed singer in the Punjabi music industry, Nimrat Khaira, made the big shift in terms of her acting debut in 'Lahoriye'. Her role as Harleen Kaur (Amrinder Gill's sister) received excessive admiration in the movie.

4. Priyanka Mehta (Krazzy Tabbar) - Having made her debut in Punjabi Industry, Priyanka stood tall in the film which has a star cast with names like Harish Verma, Jaswinder Bhalla, B N Sharma, Shavinder Mahal, Hobby Dhaliwal, Yograj Singh to name a few.

5. Saanvi Dhiman (Rupinder Gandhi 2: The Robinhood) - Having made her debut in Bollywood last year with 'Mmirsa', the second movie of the Rupinder Gandhi series saw her making her debut in the Punjabi film industry. Portraying the role of Satwinder Kaur, she impressed in patches in the movie.

6. Sara Gurpal (Dangar Doctor Jelly) - Sara Gurpal is not a new name for the fans of Punjabi Music Industry. But 2017 is the year when Sara made her big screen debut. She made her debut in Manje Bistre in a guest appearance but her 1st big break came in this year's Diwali release, Dangar Doctor Jelly where she played a beauty with brains who could also throw in some punches and make the audience laugh.
