Yograj Singh, an actor and the father of former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, has sought legal protection from arrest after a case was registered against him in Chandigarh over an allegedly offensive remark made in a web series.
The anticipatory bail application was recently presented before the Chandigarh district court, which has asked the local police to submit their reply and case records before the next hearing scheduled for May 20.
The FIR was lodged at Sector-36 police station following complaints over a dialogue from the Hindi web series Lukkhe, released earlier this month on Amazon Prime Video.
The issue gained attention after a video clip from the series began circulating widely online. In the disputed scene, Yograj Singh’s character is seen speaking lines that critics have described as derogatory and disrespectful toward women.
The complaint alleged that the remarks were offensive in nature and could promote harmful stereotypes, prompting police to initiate legal proceedings.
According to court filings, Yograj Singh’s counsel argued that the dialogue formed part of a scripted fictional performance and should not be interpreted as his personal opinion or intent.
The legal team has requested pre-arrest relief, maintaining that the actor has cooperated fully and that custodial interrogation is unnecessary.
Police officials are currently examining all material connected to the complaint, including the viral clip and the original episode context, as part of their investigation.
The controversy has sparked sharp reactions across social media, with some users demanding accountability for objectionable content in entertainment, while others have defended artistic freedom and context-based interpretation.
The court’s decision on May 20 is expected to determine whether Yograj Singh receives temporary legal relief as the investigation continues.
