Ed Sheeran Teams Up with Arijit Singh for India-Inspired Track ‘Sapphire’

Global pop sensation Ed Sheeran has teamed up with India’s musical powerhouse Arijit Singh for a soulful new track titled ‘Sapphire’, celebrating Indian culture in a way that has left fans absolutely thrilled.

The song, which features on Sheeran’s latest album Play, blends Sheeran’s signature acoustic-pop style with vibrant Indian influences. From its lyrics to visuals, Sapphire is a tribute to the colors, sounds, and soul of India. One fan even joked, “Someone please give Ed Sheeran an Aadhaar card!” — a testament to how warmly the track has been received across the country.

A major highlight of Sapphire is Sheeran singing a line in Punjabi, “Cham cham chamke sitare wargi”, which has earned him immense appreciation for embracing desi culture with authenticity and charm.

The music video, shot across picturesque Indian locales during Sheeran’s recent multi-city tour, features bustling markets, iconic landmarks, and touching scenes with local youth, including a group of young footballers. Adding to the surprise is a cameo by none other than Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan, whose brief appearance has left fans ecstatic.

The collaboration with Arijit Singh marks a defining moment in the song. Singh not only shares vocals with Sheeran but also contributes sitar instrumentation, creating a musical fusion that bridges continents. The two are also seen performing together in the video, a visual and musical blend of East meets West.

On Instagram, Ed shared insights into the creative journey, revealing that Sapphire was the first track that helped him shape the vision for Play. He recounted finishing the song in Goa, surrounded by some of India’s finest musicians, and described the experience as deeply inspiring.

Adding to the excitement, Sheeran teased an upcoming full Punjabi version of the song, featuring extended vocals from Arijit Singh. While the album version is already winning hearts, fans are eagerly waiting for the Punjabi rendition.
