Yograj Singh Slams PBKS Captain Shreyas Iyer for Reckless Dismissal in IPL 2025 Final: “A Criminal Offence”

Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has strongly criticised Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer for his rash dismissal during the IPL 2025 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), terming the shot selection a “criminal offence.”

Iyer, who had impressed with a match-winning unbeaten 87 in Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians, was expected to anchor the Punjab Kings’ chase of 191 in the high-stakes final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. However, the right-hander disappointed as he managed just a single run before edging a poorly judged shot off Romario Shepherd, caught behind by Jitesh Sharma.

Entering at No. 4 after the dismissal of opener Prabhsimran Singh, Iyer faced just two deliveries. His early exit became a major turning point in the match, as Punjab Kings fell narrowly short, losing the title clash by just six runs.

Speaking to the media post-match, Yograj Singh did not hold back. “This is not just a mistake; it’s a criminal offence in a final. There’s no apology for such a shot, especially from the captain. You can’t throw away your wicket like that when the team depends on you,” he said.

Iyer's dismissal has sparked debate among fans and experts alike, with many pointing to the lack of composure shown in a crunch situation. Despite a strong campaign, the Punjab Kings' hopes of lifting their maiden IPL title were dashed, with Iyer’s misstep at the center of the disappointment.
