A wave of unease is spreading across Punjabi music circles following reports that donation campaigns—both within India and overseas—are being run using the name of noted Punjabi singer Rajvir Jawanda. These drives are reportedly being promoted as efforts to assist his family or to build a memorial, yet many supporters say they are unsure about who launched them or how the collected money is being handled.
No Family Approval, Say Sources
Individuals familiar with the matter insist that Jawanda’s family has not authorised any fundraising initiative, nor have they issued a statement confirming their involvement. Despite this, requests for donations have been spotted on various social media platforms, prompting growing suspicion about their authenticity.
Questions Over Transparency
Several fans who came across these donation links say that key details—such as the identity of the organisers, the purpose of the fund, and information about financial oversight—are missing. This lack of clarity has led to increasing calls from supporters urging the public to stay alert and not contribute unless the drive is verified through reliable channels connected to the Jawanda family.
Rising Alerts From Online Safety Groups
Digital safety advocates point out that misuse of celebrity names for crowdfunding scams has become more common. They advise the public to:
-
Verify every fundraising appeal before donating,
-
Contribute only to campaigns officially endorsed by the family or legitimate representatives,
-
Report questionable fundraising activity to appropriate platforms or authorities.
