Chandigarh: The Haryana State Commission for Women has directed police to arrest rapper Badshah after he failed to appear before the panel in connection with a controversy surrounding his song Tateeree.
Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia said the singer had been summoned to appear before the commission in Panipat on March 13 to respond to complaints related to the music video. However, he did not attend the hearing within the specified time frame.
Bhatia said the commission has now asked police in Panipat and Panchkula to take immediate action, including arresting the rapper and seizing his passport. She also confirmed that a look-out circular has already been issued to prevent him from leaving the country.
Controversy over song visuals
The dispute began after the release of the song earlier this month. Social worker Savita Arya lodged a complaint alleging that the video contained visuals that portrayed women in a disrespectful manner.
According to the complaint, the video features girls in school uniforms dancing inside a Haryana Roadways bus and making gestures considered inappropriate by the complainant. Following the complaint, police registered cases against the rapper in Panchkula and Jind.
Lawyers seek more time
During the hearing, a legal team representing the artist appeared before the commission. Advocate Akshay Dahiya said Badshah was unable to attend due to professional commitments but was willing to cooperate with the inquiry.
The lawyer added that they had come to the commission with an authorization letter from the singer and requested additional time for him to present his side. He also said the legal team was prepared to issue an apology if required.
The commission has maintained that the rapper must personally appear before it to clarify his position, while police investigations into the case continue.
