Kaka Ji breaks January conjectures: The recently released Punjabi movie has been successful in breaking a renowned assumption of the film industry.
‘Kaka Ji‘, the latest Punjabi film to be made public (January 18), has stood tall on all expectations and is in line to become the first successful venture of the year 2019. The fact that the movie is being liked by the audiences across the state clearly states it ending to be a profitable entity for the producers – Dreamreality Movies.
Having made three critically and commercially acclaimed movies in ‘Rupinder Gandhi – The Gangster..?‘, ‘Rupinder Gandhi 2: The Robinhood‘ and ‘Dakuaan Da Munda‘ in as many years, this venture has introduced them into the commercial genre.
Having said all of this, a hidden element which needs to be praised is the brave decision taken by producers Ravneet Kaur Chahal and Rajesh Kumar with respect to releasing a Punjabi movie in January.
While only one Punjabi movie had released in January 2015, the following year saw no release at all in the Punjabi film industry in the first month of year. Talking of the last two years (2017 and 2018), the Punjabi industry saw the release of three movies each in January.
It is worth mentioning that none of these movies worked well at the box-office which highlighted the famous conjecture of Punjabi films not yielding success in January. Citing the same, filmmakers decided against doing the same for the first month wasn’t considered as profitable as the others.
While some blamed the peak winters for it, the other blamed the wedding season. However, no one cared about the quality of movies which were being released first up. With Dreamreality Movies deciding to do the same and following it with successful execution, they have set a precedent for the others to follow. With the production house serving the right product to the right audiences in the right manner, things have all but worked their way.
One of the major reasons behind the success of the movie is its lead actor in Dev Kharoud. Given his prowess as an actor, Kharoud played a role (for the first time) in a much lighter, happier and romantic space with outright conviction. His incessant fan-following among the youth of Punjab is a welcoming sign for both him and the Punjabi film industry.
Credit also goes to White Hill Studios, who have distributed the movie worldwide. It isn’t necessarily easy for a Punjabi movie to dominate in times when a hit Hindi movie (Aditya Dhar’s ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’) is alluring the audiences at will in the cinema halls.
Here is hoping that the others will learn a piece of lesson from Dreamreality’s success with Kaka Ji and release more Punjabi films in the month of January than just wait for the summer season to begin.
