Diljit Dosanjh, the king of Box Office in Punjabi Cinema returns to the fold of releases in 3 days time on March 25 with his Mandeep Kumar directed ‘Ambarsariya’.
Diljit plays an Insurance Agent in the film, however that is only as a cover to his real identity. Either he plays a spy/cop or a terrorist who is in Amritsar to kill the CM. However, my money is on the Spy part because that’s what the heroes are meant to be. Aren’t they? And the plus side is that he gets to romance 3 beautiful actresses – Navneet Kaur Dhillon, Monica Gill and Lauren Gottlieb. What a lucky guy!!
This film marks the debut in Punjabi Cinema for all the 3 actresses. However, Navneet and Lauren have worked in Hindi films earlier. It is Monica Gill whom I am personally looking forward to making her big screen debut. Many industry insiders have termed her as the ‘Next Reigning Queen’ of Punjabi Cinema and she has all the right to enjoy this tag (in future) given her slate of Upcoming films – Ambarsariya and The Return of Sardaarji (with Diljit Dosanjh) and Kaptaan (with Gippy Grewal). Also I have seen Monica act well in some crucial scenes on my visit to the sets of Ambarsariya in September/October of 2015 in Chandigarh and Jalandhar.
Also the film has a strong supporting cast with the likes of Gurpreet Ghuggi and Rana Ranbir (Coming fresh from the success of Ardaas), Gul Panag, Shivendar Mahal and many others. Also there’s Binnu Dhillon in a guest appearance. Diljit and Binnu haven’t worked with each other since Jihne Mera Dil Luteya way back in July 2011. So it will be a treat to watch both of them together on-screen after a long time. Ofcourse they have hosted a few seasons of Punjabi Film Awards together and they share a great amount of respect for each other s it is evident from the show.
Mandeep Kumar is at the helm of things in the Direction department. He returns to the mix of things after Jihne Mera Dil Luteya. In between he’s made a successful Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya in Hindi. After that he concentrated on making a successful career in ad films in Mumbai and he’s been pretty successful there making ad campaigns for various big brands. There were reports that he was making a film with Shahid Kapoor sometimes back with Tips producing it but all that was done and dusted when Mandeep decided to make 2 back to back Punjabi films – Kaptaan (Releasing in May) and Ambarsariya.
Produced by Tips Industries, Ambarsariya boasts of a strong production value which 90% of the Punjabi films lack. This year only Channo Kamli Yaar Di has had strong Production Value so far. But coming back to Ambarsariya, it is evident right from the trailer to the song promos. Just look at the scale of both the songs which have released so far. Look at the crowd and background dancers in both the songs. These things go unnoticed but if they are good they should be appreciated. Also the locations have been selected with great knowledge and research. This is where big banners like Tips have a role to play where quality is not compromised at all.
Coming to the music, Jatinder Shah has composed the music and so far (at the time of writing) just 2 songs have been released – Pagg Wala Munda and Ju Think. Both the songs have been sung by Diljit Dosanjh and written by Happy Raikoti and Deep Arraicha respectively. Both of the songs are Bhangra numbers and are good for short term listening and do not have a long term value. In the coming days, I am expecting a love song from Diljit and if the film has a great love song then it will help the film putting up great numbers at the box office in the Initial opening weekend as it’s the music which helps the film take an Opening after which it’s the content which really matters.
Box Office Prediction – A hurricane at the box office is predicted. However, the ongoing World T20 may come in the way of the film in the evening shows. 25th and 27th (1sr Friday and Sunday) will see PCA Stadium, Mohali hosting important games including an India vs Australia game on Sunday evening which should harm a bit of the initial collection. So I feel that as of now, the Highest Opening Day and Highest Opening Weekend in East Punjab both of which are held by Sardaar Ji are safe as of now. However, the film will very easily surpass Jatt & Juliet 2 and Angrej for the 2nd highest Opening Day and Weekend. But as they say, Box Office is as unpredictable as Rains in Rome so I can’t rule out a possibility of the film breaking the record but I still stick to my point of it not breaking the record. My prediction – Rs 1.5-1.8 crores Opening Day (East Punjab only).
Let’s wait and watch for March 25 to see what actually happens.
