Desi Rockstar, Gippy Grewal, has brought out his latest single track, ‘Nai Shad Da’. The eagerly awaited song was finally released in the morning on the official YouTube channel of Humble Music, which is Grewal’s own venture. At the time of writing this article, it has received in excess of seven lakh views on the same platform.
Post ‘Lahore’, ‘Car Nachdi’ and ‘Velna’, this is Grewal’s fourth single track of the year 2017. Having earned oodles of accolades for his respective roles in ‘Manje Bistre’ and ‘Lucknow Central’, the song has it in it to end the year on a high for him. Nai Shad Da is a stereotypical Gippy Grewal dance number which is perhaps released keeping the current party season in mind. The song is lively and high-spirited, traits which are par for the course with most of his tracks. Grewal has also experimented with his looks in the video. The double eyeshadow fantasy makeup will certainly gain him a lot of eyeballs.
Grewal’s co-singer in the song, Gurlej Akhtar, is a deserving candidate for an encomium for she has delivered yet another successful duet. In times where three of her duets in ’25 Pind’, ‘Straight Outta Mohali’ and ‘Jeeja Saali’ have released in the past month, she seems to be on an unrestrained bout altogether. Chemistry between both the artists is a cardinal factor in duets, something which Grewal and Akhtar have nailed to perfection in Nai Shad Da.
Another crucial facet of such duets where both the artists jeer at each other is its lyrics. This song is penned down and composed by Jaani, a leading name amongst the songsmiths of the contemporary Punjabi music industry. Nai Shad Da is just another byword as to why he is a part of that list. The song is musically directed by Jay K (Jassi Katyal). The music video has been directed by Vinnil Markan. Maneesh Chandra Bhatt has performed the role of a DOP.
Another name of consequence in the music video is Serbian model and actress, Nataša Stankovi?. She has made appearances across Hindi movies, reality shows and advertisements in her limited career so far. The fans of Punjabi music have seen her earlier in Badshah’s mega-hit, ‘DJ Waley Babu’ (2015). In what is her second appearance in a Punjabi song, Stankovi? has performed it as a crème de la crème. The best part about her in the music video is the way in which she has lip synced the Punjabi lyrics for it isn’t as easy (for a non-Indian girl) as she has made it look in the video.
The video shows Stankovi? asking Grewal to give-up his numerous obsessions. Had Grewal eventually left his habit of drinking excessively in the song, it would have acted as an upswing in the video in the form of a moral lesson. Nevertheless, the song has what it takes to be a successful venture.
