Punjabi Movie Sadda Haq has been banned in Punjab by the orders of the state government. This has come in one day before the release of the movie. The ban has been imposed due to some objectionable scenes in the movie. Based on the militancy period in Punjab the movie has been in controversies since the start.
There have been protests in the state about the movie with some Hindu groups and Shiv Sena opposing its release. A special screening of the movie was held in Punjab Bhavan. The Chief Secretary of the state, Principal Secretary, Home Secretary, DGP (Punjab police), DIG Intelligence (Punjab Police) saw the movie and reached the decision of banning the movie holding it could disturb the peace and harmony of the state.
Reacting to the decision Director Mandeep Benipal said, “I was shocked to learn the decision of the Government. I couldn’t believe and thought it was all rumors It is very unfortunate that the movie has been banned. It’s a loss for Punjabi Audience.”
Midst the ban movie’s premiere was held as per schedule in Chandigarh. Though most of the star cast didn’t attend it. There were all praises for the movie by the press and other invitees. The movie has got a U certificate from the censor board of India.
This ban howsoever is just for Punjab. The movie can run outside Punjab and Overseas, provided the will of the producers.
