Comedian Samay Raina has shed new light on the controversy linked to India’s Got Latent, addressing the issue in his latest stand-up act while blending humour with behind-the-scenes revelations.
During his special, Raina disclosed that the much-criticised question posed by digital creator Ranveer Allahbadia was not a one-off moment, but had been repeated several times during filming. He explained that while reviewing the footage, he chose to retain only one instance and removed the rest to tone down the segment before release.
Presenting his account in a comic narrative, Raina remarked that he believed he had already filtered out the majority of the inappropriate content during editing. His comments, though delivered humorously, offered a glimpse into the editorial decisions taken before the episode went public.
Beyond the jokes, the comedian also spoke about the aftermath of the incident, recalling how the controversy spiralled into online outrage, legal complications, and threats directed at those associated with the show. He admitted the episode had a personal impact, with his family expressing concern over the situation.
The controversy originally erupted when Allahbadia asked a provocative question during the show, drawing criticism from viewers and triggering a wave of complaints. While fellow panelists, including Ashish Chanchlani and Apoorva Mukhija, appeared to treat it lightly at the time, public reaction quickly intensified.
The matter escalated to the attention of the National Commission for Women, and legal cases were filed against those involved. The Supreme Court of India later granted interim protection to Allahbadia, while also expressing strong disapproval of the remarks.
Raina’s latest performance reflects an attempt to revisit the episode through satire, offering his perspective on an incident that continues to be widely discussed in digital and entertainment circles.
