SGPC Protests Kangana Ranaut's Emergency, Calls It Anti-Sikh

0% Liked

Emergency Movie Release: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has declared a protest against Kangana Ranaut's controversial film Emergency, alleging that it carries an anti-Sikh narrative and misrepresents the Sikh genocide. The film is set to hit theaters on January 17 in Punjab and other cities across India.

According to the SGPC, the movie suppresses historical atrocities faced by Sikhs and falsely portrays the community with an agenda of defamation. Terming it as "poisonous propaganda," the SGPC has organized protests at key cinema halls tomorrow.

Protests will be held at:

  • Chanda Tara Cinema (near bus stand): SGPC office staff to assemble at 9 a.m.
  • Alpha One Mall (Mall of Amritsar): Dharma Prachar Committee members to gather at 9 a.m.
  • Trillium Mall (Darbar Sahib vicinity): Entire SGPC staff to protest at 9 a.m.

The SGPC has mobilized its full workforce and urged the public to boycott the movie.

Why the Backlash?

Emergency explores India’s Emergency era under former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The SGPC has objected to the film’s alleged downplaying of the Sikh genocide and claims it deliberately maligns the Sikh community under the guise of historical retelling.

The protests aim to block the film’s screening and raise awareness about the misrepresentation of Sikh history. The SGPC has vowed to continue its efforts to protect the dignity and truth of Sikh heritage.
