The year 2017 is in its twilight. It is that time of the year when people concoct plans regarding the New Year's eve. It is that time of the year when people build new resolutions. It is also that time of the year when all métiers are scrutinised.

We, at Punjabi Mania, have covered news vis-à-vis Punjabi movies for the whole of 2017. With just a handful of days remaining in the year, we believe that this is the best time to review the performances across various spheres of activity.

Let us pick up the threads of our segment with the 'Top 5 Standout Performance' of the year (Female).

1. Sargun Mehta (Jindua, Lahoriye) - In the initial years, no one has enjoyed success as much as Sargun Mehta in the Punjabi film industry. She has made a place in the hearts of the Punjabi audience to the extent that they recall her more with her screen names than her real name. Mehta was awe-inspiring as Saggi in 'Jindua' and was in a different class altogether as Ameeran in 'Lahoriye'.

2. Simi Chahal (Rabb Da Radio) - Having gained plaudits as Parminder Kaur (Pakko) in 'Bambukat' last year, Simi Chahal did not let her form deteriorate in 'Rabb Da Radio'. She was praised heavily, in both Punjab and overseas, for her role as Guddi. Her inventiveness is what works the best for her.

3. Mandy Takhar (Rabb Da Radio) - Nailing the role of Naseeb Kaur in 'Rabb Da Radio' with out and out poise is what will go down as one of the greatest moments of Mandy Takhar's career. The way in which she portrayed the role was an epitome of how to carry simplicity in a glamorous way. In what was perhaps the USP of her role, also added to the calibre of the movie.

4. Payal Rajput (Channa Mereya) - A renowned name in the Indian television circuit, Payal Rajput made her debut as an actress in the Punjabi industry in 'Channa Mereya'. In the movie, her role as Kainaat Dhillon was of the superlative degree. Her unflinching attitude in the movie was much appreciated by the viewers. She portrayed the role of Yograj Singh's on-screen daughter with traits that best defined the legendary actor.

5. Sonam Bajwa (Nikka Zaildar 2) - Sonam Bajwa's role as Roop Kaur was a testament to the fact as to why she is one of the leading ladies of the Punjabi film industry. The movie was a sequel to 'Nikka Zaildar' (2016), hence, oodles of expectations were bound to come. Bajwa stood tall on those expectation in an unfailing manner. And for the first time in her career, Sonam Bajwa actually seemed like she was an actress and not a mere on-screen beauty.
