Subhash Ghai, the showman of the Indian Film Industry having made films like Karma, Karz, Ram Lakhan & Taal to name a few is all set to make his re-entry into the Punjabi Cinema with his new venture, “Double Di Trouble”. Yes, it’s sort of a re-entry because when he started his career in 1973 he made his acting debut with Sherni opposite Radha Saluja. Now obviously he’s making his comeback as a producer.
The film stars Dharmedra, Gippy Grewal in double roles alongside Minissha Lamba, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Ragini Khanna and will be directed by Smeep Kang. Speaking to Punjabi Mania after the event, Mr. Ghai on how he came across this script said, “It was Smeep (the director) who came to me with this idea and I liked it and straight away told him that I will produce it provided you get me the right actors in right roles. Then he narrated the script to his team of actors and happily all of them came on board very happily and liked the idea.”
The new trend of Big Bollywood Actors & Producers now suddenly turning towards the Punjabi film industry has brought a new wave into the Industry. Commenting on this, he said, “Earlier there was a huge gap in Punjabi Cinema. But now the business has grown to such huge levels that every producer sitting in Mumbai wants to enter into this Industry and make a Punjabi film. I am extremely lucky to have got such a brilliant team for my first Punjabi film and I commit to make at least 1 Punjabi film every year.”
Also when asked about him producing a Punjabi comedy, he said that Punjabi people are special. They are very brave and even laugh when in crisis. And they are the ones who like to watch comedies and laugh out there when they go to a hall to watch a film.
