You have seen him in Kabaddi Ikk Mohabbat before, now he is back with O.G.J. We are talking about Dev Kharoud, who is playing lead in Punjabi Movie O.G.J. He spoke to Punjabi Mania recently.
Tell us about your background?
I was born and brought up in a village near Patiala. I am a graduate and after my studies I started doing theatre under Mr. Rajesh Sharma and Late Balraj Pandit. I have also been a part of Daily Soaps for Doordarshan Jalandhar, Get Punjabi and other Punjabi channels before I finally moved for movies. I debuted in movies with Babbu Mann’s Hashar. There I played the role of a NRI. Also I played lead in Punjabi movie Kabbadi: Ik Mohabbat.
Your new movie “O.G.J.” is set to release in a few days. What’s your role in it?
“O.G.J.” is a comedy caper and I play a cunning advocate in it, who thinks he can win any case with ease. But life takes such a turn that he is made to face the mistakes he has done in past. The movie is a comedy of errors.
You have been in theatre for long time. How has been your experience there?
Theatre is a learning experience for every actor. Most of the successful Punjabi actors have theatre in their backgrounds. I feel it’s the space where you enhance your skills. Personally talking about me, I have acted from being a lunatic kid to being an old man in the theatre. I have made people laugh and sob with my characters. So yes, it helps in making you a versatile actor.
You have been in both theatre and movies. Which one is more challenging?
Well both are equally challenging. In theatre you get a long time to rehearse but when it’s showtime you can’t do retakes, whereas in cinema you have less time to rehearse, sometimes you get the script just on the shoot, but you can go for retakes. I feel both are equally challenging.
What are your upcoming projects?
After O.G.J, my next movie will be Sadda Haq, which is complete and scheduled to release on April 5. Also I will be shooting for a new movie from next month. The title however of the movie is not decided yet.
