Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s obscene remarks about parents and women, renowned Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi has spoken out, questioning why it took so long for people to take offense when similar content has been prevalent for over a decade.

Jassi expressed both gratitude and disappointment, stating, "First, I want to thank the one who awakened your conscience. But it saddens me that it took so long for people to realize the extent of the damage done. Rappers and artists have been promoting obscenity for the last 15-16 years, and only now has it become an issue."

Culture Reflects Society

In a 3-minute-24-second video shared on his Facebook account, Jassi raised five key points about the impact of obscene content on youth and society:

1. Delayed Realization: Jassi pointed out that while many people urged him to comment on Allahbadia’s controversy, the reality is that such content has been prevalent for years. He questioned why people are only now feeling disturbed.

2. Rappers and Vulgarity: He criticized how rappers have normalized vulgarity in their lyrics, making people, including families, unknowingly consume and accept inappropriate content. "For over 15 years, rappers have been using explicit lyrics, and people have been enjoying them without realizing their consequences," he said.

3. The Degradation of Entertainment: Jassi condemned the low standards of content in entertainment, particularly referencing the controversial show where Allahbadia made his remarks. He expressed concern over how women and even respected figures in society were present in such settings, questioning their willingness to tolerate disrespect for the sake of popularity.

4. Need for Government Intervention: The singer emphasized the importance of government policies to protect young minds, comparing the issue to drug prevention efforts. He stressed the role of religious and moral teachings in preventing the moral decline of society and called for censorship on vulgar content.

5. Culture Requires Regulation: Jassi argued that just as urban planning follows government policies to maintain order, cultural content should also be regulated to ensure a positive representation of society. "Culture defines a community’s character. If it is ruined, so is the identity of our people," he stated.
